Trackmen Swamp Schurz |

| The indoor track team defeated Schurz by a score of 100-9 last Friday night at the Maine East field house. In this meet their third victory of what has been so far a successful season, the Warriors captured first in every event except the shot put. First place winners were as follows: Pete Klages '68, 2 mile, 10:01; Lee LaBadie '68, one mile, 4:11.7 (new Maine East indoor track record); Gary Smith '68, one-half mile, 2:01.5; Dave Getsla '68, one-quarter mile, 53.9; Gene Behrens '69, broad jump, 20'l"; Jim Meuting '68, pole vault, 13 1/2'; Larry Nelson '68, high jump, 6'; Tom Leonard '68, 50-yard dash, 5.8; Terry Hammer '68, high hurdles, 6.7, and low hurdles, 6.4; and victories in the mile and 800-yard relays. The Warriors also beat Niles East, although not quite with such fervency. The 66-56 victory included first places by Klages, LaBadie, Behrens, Mueting, and Hammer. |
The tribe did lose to Proviso West, however, in an 83-39 defeat. Warrior triumphs included Nelson's first in the broad jump and his first place in the high jump. Dave looper '68 took first in the 50-yard dash with 5.8. Lee LaBadie set a new Proviso indoor track record in the half mile with a time of 1:56.2. The sophs edged Schurz 83-82 after a tremendous victory over Niles East in which they dominated five events. They also garnered a convincing 73-48 victory over Proviso. The freshmen lost to Maine East 72-36 after they had beaten Maine South 90-30. They lost to Proviso, however, 79-31. |
